چکیده

The NNR-NUVEL-1A model, as an international standard model of the International Terrestrial Reference Frame (ITRF), should be an accurate and rigorous enough no net rotation (NNR) model. In this paper, the new inertial Q-tensor of global plates is accurately calculated with a new method, and further the total angular momentum of global plates is obtained. The result shows that the reference frame constrained by NNR-NUVEL-1A is rotating at 0.012◦/Ma with respect to the Earth lithosphere, and the NNR constraint of NNR-NUVEL-1A is not realized completely. A new revised model NNR-NUVEL-1B is presented. © 2004 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Velocity Field Estimation Using GPS Precise Point Positioning: The South American Plate Case

GPS is essential in applications that require high (sub centimeter) positioning precision, such as in the velocity field estimation of tectonic plates. Normally, GPS relative positioning is used for this kind of application. However, GPS Precise Point Positioning (PPP) is a very simple and efficient method, which, as shown in this paper, can also be applied. This paper outlines the use of PPP f...

Plate boundary deformation between the Pacific and North America in the Explorer region

One of the consequences of plate tectonics is that a spreading ridge will eventually approach a subduction zone. The problem whether the possible break-up of the approaching ridge will lead to the development of independent micro-plates, or not, is still unresolved. Some 4 million years ago the interaction between the Juan de Fuca Ridge and the Cascadia subduction zone resulted in ridge fragmen...

New kinematic models for Pacific - North America motion from 3 Ma to present , I : Evidence for steady motion and biases in the NUVEL - 1 A model

We use velocities derived from 2-4.5 years of continuous GPS observations at 21 sites on the Pacific and North American plates along with a subset of the NUVEL-1A data to examine the steadiness of PacificNorth America motion since 3.16 Ma, the transfer of Baja California to the Pacific plate, and the magnitude of biases in the NUVEL-1A estimate of Pacific-North America motion. We find that Paci...

GPS geodetic constraints on Caribbean - North America plate motion

We describe a model for Caribbean plate motion based on GPS velocities of four sites in the plate interior and two azimuths of the Swan Islands transform fault. The data are well fit by a single angular velocity, with average misfits approximately equal to the 1.5-3.0 mm yr -• velocity uncertainties. The new model predicts Caribbean-North America motion -65% faster than predicted by NUVEL-1A, a...

Low Velocity Impact Damage Prediction in Laminated Composite Plates

In this paper, a finite element model is presented for the transient analysis of low velocity impact, and the impact induced damage in the composite plate subjected to low velocity impact is studied. The failure criteria suggested by Choi and Chang and the Tsai-Hill failure criteria are used for the prediction of the damage in the composite plate; then the effect of various parameters on the im...
